Giant Cheese Sculpture unveiled at Indiana State Fair

Sarah Kaufmann, "The Cheese Lady" (lower left of display, next to ADA mascot Buttercup) describes the time, talent, patience, and perseverance that went into creation of this year's Indiana State Fair Giant Cheese Sculpture. Sarah's comments were made during its official unveiling on Aug 11 in the Pioneer Our Land Pavilion. This year's artwork salutes "Fuel Up to Play 60," the nutrition & exercise initiative supported by Indiana's dairy farm families and the NFL Indianapolis Colts. Deb Osza (lower right of display, next to Colts mascot Blue), hosted the unveiling ceremony which was attended by dozens representing Indiana agriculture, the Indiana State Fair and Indiana's dairy farm families. The cheese sculpture will be on display for the remainder of the fair's run, through Sun, Aug 22.

Artist Sarah Kaufmann, one of only three known cheese carvers in the US, was

Sarah Kaufmann's cheese sculpture at the Indiana State Fair is an annual tradition. The 2009 sculpture, featured above, was carved out of 1,418 pounds of yellow, white cheddar, gouda and string cheeses. Kaufmann's masterpiece, titled "Value of Dairy," was officially dedicated as a tribute to the nutrient-rich goodness of the products made possible by our Indiana dairy farm families.
